On April 12, our 7th graders helped put our rainbow trout into portable aerating tanks so they could release them into Mingamahone Brook in Allaire State Park. We counted 159 trout!

Stay tuned for pictures and videos! 4/8/19- I fed 5.0 grams of size 2 food to the trout this morning. Students did a 7-gallon water change in the afternoon. I added 20 mL of Nitrifying Bacteria.
4/9/19- I fed 5.5 grams of size 2 food to the trout this morning. The pH was 6.4 and the ammonia concentration was 1.0 ppm. 4/10/19- I fed 5.7 grams of size 2 food to the trout this morning. An 8-gallon water change was done. 15 mL of Nitrifying Bacteria was added. 4/11/19- I fed 6.5 grams of size 2 food to the trout this morning. 4/12/19- I fed 7.5 grams of size 2 food to the trout. Trout are released today!!!! 4/2/2019- pH was 6.0 I fed 4.5 grams of size 2 food. An 8-gallon water change was done.
4/3/2019- pH was 6.4 I fed 4.8 grams of size 2 food. 4/4/2019- pH was 6.0 I fed 4.7 grams of size 2 food. An 8-gallon water change was done. I added 20 mL of Nitrifying Bacteria and 15 mL of Special Blend. The bottle of Special Blend I had been using lost its smell, so I opened up a new bottle. 4/6/2019- pH was 6.0. I fed 5.0 grams of size 2 food. A 6-gallon water change was done. WATER QUALITY (30 minutes after water change)
3/25/19- pH was 6.0-6.4 and ammonia concentration was 0.5 ppm. I gave the trout 4.2 grams of size 2 food.
3/26/19- pH was 6.4 and ammonia concentration was 0.5 ppm. I gave the trout 4.2 grams of size 2 food. 3/27/19- pH was 6.0-6.4 and ammonia concentration was 0.5 ppm. I gave the trout 4.2 grams of size 2 food in the afternoon. 3/28/19- I fed 5.0 grams of size 2 food to the fish. Afterschool, students changed 8 gallons of water. I added 20 mL of Nitrifying bacteria. 3/29/19- I fed 4.7 grams of size 2 food to the fish. WATER QUALITY UPDATE:
3/17/19- 4 gallon water change. Added 20 mL Nitrifying Bacteria
3/18/19- pH was 6.4. Ammonia was 0.5 ppm. I gave the trout 4.0 grams of size 2 food. In the afternoon, I did a 7 gallon water change and added 20 mL Nitrifying Bacteria. 3/19/19- I gave the trout 4.0 grams of size 2 food. 3/20/19- I gave the trout 4.0 grams of size 2 food. 3/21/19- I gave the trout 4.0 grams of size 2 food. Students did a 8 gallon water change. 3/22/19- I gave the trout 4.3 grams of size 2 food. I added 20 mL of Nitrifying Bactera. WATER QUALITY UPDATE (before food, taken in the afternoon)
3/11/19- 4.0 grams of size 2 food was fed to the trout. The pH was 6.0. An 8-gallon water change was done in the afternoon, and I removed the chiller cover to clean it.
3/12/19- 4.0 grams of size 2 food was fed to the trout. The pH was 6.4. 3/13/19- 4.0 grams of size 2 food was fed to the trout. The pH was 6.0. 3/14/19- 4.0 grams of size 2 food was fed to the trout. 3/4/2019- 4.0 grams of size 2 fish food were fed to the trout. The pH of the water was 6.0, and the concentration of nitrites was 0 ppm, which suggests that the addition of nitrifying bacteria and Special Blend bacteria helped reduce the concentration of nitrites. 3/5/2019- 4.0 grams of size 2 fish food were fed to the trout. The pH of the water was 6.4. 3/6/2019- 4.0 grams of size 2 fish food were fed to the trout. The pH of the water was 6.4. 2/25/19- The pH of the water first thing in the morning was 6.4. I fed 3.2 grams of size 2 food to the trout. The pH of the water at the end of the day was 6.0.
2/26/19- The pH of the water first thing in the morning was 6.4. I fed 3.5 grams of size 2 food to the trout. A 6-gallon water change was done in the afternoon. 2/27/19- The pH of the water first thing in the morning was 6.4. I fed 3.2 grams of size 2 food to the trout. 2/28/19- The pH of the water first thing in the morning was 6.4. I fed 3.5 grams of size 2 food to the trout. 03/01/19- The pH of the water first thing in the morning was 6.0. I fed 4.0 grams of size 2 food to the trout. At noon, I fed 2.0 grams of size 2 food. It appears that the larger fish still have extended bellies, which suggests that the larger fish are still eating the smaller fish. WATER QUALITY
I added of 15 mL Special Blend and 15 mL of Nitrifying Bacteria to the tank. |
